Residence Card for Family Members of EU nationals
The Residence Card for Family Members of EU Nationals is a residence permit which enables relatives of Spanish or EU Citizens to live and work in Spain under the same conditions as any other EU citizen. It applies to non-EU family members who accompany or join a family member from the EU, EEA or Switzerland who is already registered in the central register of foreign nationals in Spain. Family members obtain a 5-year residency Card which has many advantages.
*Please note that, the EU Family permit will be valid as long as the EU national is living in Spain.
Family Members
- EU citizen´s spouse or registered civil union.
- First-degree descendants under 21 years old. If the descendant is over 21 it must be proven that the latter is dependant on the EU national, for example if he/ she is studying, has no sufficient income to support himself/herself, or suffers from a health condition.
- First-degree ascendants provided that the EU national is in charge of them. However the EU Family residency will not apply to Grandparents.
- Extended relatives of EU citizens, provided that, cohabitation with the EU national or severe health conditions are duly proven.
- Where the civil partner is not registered, a minimum of 1 year of cohabitation or to have children in common is necessary to apply.
- Brothers or sisters of the EU National can apply as long as it is demonstrated that they lived with and are economically dependent on the EU citizen.
